No More Stinky Septic Problems

About Me

No More Stinky Septic Problems

When I moved into my new house, I assumed that the residence used a city sewage system like the four houses I lived in previously. The homeowner did not tell me about the septic tank and I did not think to ask. Not only was I not informed of the septic system, but I was not told that the tank had not been cleaned in six years. I started to smell a foul odor from my toilet soon after I moved in and there seemed to be a disgusting discharge building on my lawn. I knew that I had a serious problem when raw sewage started to come back up through my toilet. After an investigation by a plumber and an emergency septic service call, my septic tank was emptied and repaired. I now know that septic care is extremely important and I want you to know this too.

Maintenance For Construction Site Restroom Facilities: Four Services To Request

When you rent portable restrooms for your construction site, you'll also need to consider maintenance services for the restrooms. The facilities will need to be maintained throughout the length of your construction project to ensure hygiene, so it's important to discuss this with your rental company before you sign a contract. Here are just some things to take into consideration before you rent portable toilets.

Holding Tank Cleaning

The holding tanks in each portable restroom will need to be emptied on a regular basis. Ignoring this need can lead to backups and unhygienic conditions. Let your rental company know about how many people will be working at your site and how many days per week you will be working. This can help the company anticipate the needs of your crew and plan accordingly. You may want to have the holding tanks emptied on the weekends to avoid interrupting your work schedule.

Power Washing

If your project is ongoing, you may want to have the restrooms power-washed and sanitized. This can be done weekly or less frequently, depending on your needs. If the portable restrooms are located in an uncovered area where they are exposed to the elements, the exteriors of the units should be cleaned as well as the interiors. You may choose to have this service provided at the same time that the holding tanks are emptied.

Deodorizing

Unfortunately, odors can build up in portable toilets. Your rental company should have a plan in place to combat this. The plan may include adding deodorizing chemicals to the holding tanks, using cakes in any urinals you have in the units, and adding air fresheners to each portable toilet. You can also rent portable toilets with ventilation systems to help cycle out stale air and leave the units smelling fresh and clean. Remember that you don't have to deal with uncomfortable restroom facilities just because you are working outdoors.

Supply Stocking

The supplies for your portable restrooms will also need to be refilled regularly, so ask your rental company what the plan is for this aspect of your rental agreement. The supplies include toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and soap, though some portable toilets may come with additional supply options. If your crew has female staff, consider asking your rental company about feminine hygiene products. These can be added to each unit, or you can designate one or two restrooms for your female staff to give them personal, private space.
